Waxing Bikini
|
Waxing the bikini area is a great idea; I highly
recommend it for everyone. It is well worth the
money, time and effort spent. This is the first area
that I got waxed on my body. I am surprised how many
women do not get their bikini area waxed; I think it
is nervousness of the unknown. After telling my
friends, they all went, and loved it to! I do not
get waxed all the time. I wouldn’t even say I get
waxed often. I try to go before a trip, or a big
event, when shaving is not going to happen. To
really keep that area groomed, you almost have to
shave everyday, and that is not possible. The bikini
area is very sensitive, and you will get razor burn,
irritation, and bumps. I get that, and I only shave
twice a week. So, if you are going to vacation
somewhere warm where you will be in a swimsuit
everyday, you need to get waxed. I am not kidding,
you will love it, and without irritation, razor
burn, and bumps. If I could, I would go more, but I
cannot stand the growing out of the hair that it
involves. You need to grow your hair out to about ¾
of an inch. Try to grow it out a little more, you
cannot have too much. You want to make sure there is
enough for the wax to grab onto; I have a horror
story about that. |

My horror story with bikini hair
not being long enough is something I will never
forget. I really wanted to get in pronto and I
thought my hair is long enough, no biggie. So, I get
there and she starts waxing. Everything is going
fine, and then se says there are some that weren’t
long enough, she didn’t get them. Keep in mind;
before she said this, she tried to wax the same
areas over and over about 10 times with hot wax!
Normally, it isn’t bad, but your skin gets sensitive
after being waxed once, imagine ten times and the
hot wax and the cloth going on the skin, and then
ripping it off. Ouch. I am wondering what she is
going to do to get the hair off, and she pulls out a
tweezers! I am not even joking about this, I wish I
was. She pulled every single straggler out by hand.
Now, it isn’t like there were one or two, there were
about 25. It was painful, eventually after awhile my
skin went numb from pain. Every hair did not come
out with just one try either. I am thinking what am
I paying for? She is going to pull these out and in
a couple of days the straggles are going to spring
right back up. So, I did not have an even wax. It
was not a good experience. That is why, after that,
I make sure to grow my hair out a little longer than
suggested. It will take about a couple of weeks to
grow out.
Growing out the hair is the worst part. I hate it
because I feel like Chewbacca, so gross. Do not even
think about getting into a suit during this time.
You will be the girl everyone is pointing at and
talking about. After though, it is the best. You
will not have the irritation that goes along with
shaving this area. Most salons will charge you about
$25 and up. It will depend on where you go and who
you see. It might also depend on the type of wax you
get. There are four basic types of bikini waxes.
There is the partial brazilian where they remove
hair from above the vaginal area, the labia, and
butt leaving a narrow vertical strip. The full
brazilian is where they remove all of the hair.
There is the traditional bikini wax, where they
remove hair from the outside of the panty line. The
extended traditional wax includes removal of the
hair above the vaginal area and the outside of the
panty line (including the sides), leaving a strip of
hair. I think the traditional extended is the best
choice. A friend of mine went in and got the
brazilian, but she didn’t know what she was doing.
She said it hurt worse than giving birth. Keep that
in mind when making a decision. Most salons do not
even offer the full brazilian. Some say that it can
cause infection because you are removing all of the
hair, exposing all of the skin, and the sensitive
skin, susceptible to infection. Be careful what you
decide. You also might want to be careful when you
get the bikini waxed. I have never had a problem,
but some day that you should watch getting waxed a
couple of days before and after your period. It just
might make your skin more sensitive, but like I
said, I have never had a problem.
Another thing to know before going into a salon is
that some will use lights. I am talking headlights.
I went to a well know salon and was expecting to get
the regular wax. Then she pulls out this huge light,
and shines it right on me. Here is the worst part- I
went to high school with her. I could have died. I
am like, “you need to see what exactly?” Do not be
alarmed if this happens to you. Some salons use the
lights to get a better look. It will probability be
the best wax you get. There will absolutely be no
hair down there. I was a lot more uncomfortable than
I have ever been when getting waxed. |

| You might be wondering what you
will, or will not be wearing when getting a bikini
wax. It will depend on the salon. They all keep in
mind of your privacy and make you feel comfortable.
I have been to salons that have you take it all off,
but they give you a towel to cover up with. They
just have you expose the part that they are waxing
at the time, while keeping all other parts covered
up. You are never exposed this way. I have also had
them give me a disposable pair of underwear. You
take it all off and just put on their underwear.
Once, I was putting this “underwear” on, and it
seriously broke. I could have died, I was so
embarrassed. The underwear is cotton, and there is a
piece of elastic holding it together. One size fits
all, it is next to nothing but it covers you up.
Here, I was trying to get them on fast, so she
wouldn’t come in and I am not ready. Big mistake, I
just ended up fumbling and breaking them. They also
had me covered up the whole time with a towel on top
of the underwear, only exposing the area being
waxed. Lastly, I have had them just had me keep my
underwear on, still giving me a towel to cover up. I
actually did not like this, and I am surprised, but
this just got a little wax on my underwear and made
them sticky. They were fine after I washed them, but
I would hate it if it wrecked them. Anywhere you go,
they should be sensitive to your privacy. They
should give you something to cover up, at least give
you the option. If they don’t and you feel
uncomfortable, leave. Tell them you need to go to
the bathroom and just walk right out the door. Keep
in mind, it might depend on the type of wax you are
having done as to what you can keep on and if you
can be covered or not. If you are getting a
brazilian wax, expect to take it all off. You will
be in compromising positions to get that kind of wax
done, and be doing it with nothing on. This is
another reason why I would never do that type of
wax. Make sure to pick a salon where you feel
comfortable. |
