Waxing Tips - What to know about
waxing
|
|
Like shaving, you can wax almost any
part of your body. A huge advantage to waxing is
that it will last about 2-4 weeks longer than
shaving. How long it last depends on each person.
The type of hair you have will play a part too, the
thickness and coarseness. It is fairly cheap to
maintain. I think it is the best way to remove hair,
it lasts pretty long, and it is cost effective. The
only other way to remove it besides shaving is to
laser it off, and that will cost you. |

There is one negative to waxing,
and this is the part that I hate. Your hair has to
be a certain length to wax it. If it isn’t long
enough the wax will not be able to adhere to the
hair and you will not get a very good wax. Usually,
it is recommended that you grow your hair out to ¼
inch long. You will want it to be more than stubble,
for sure. I try to grow my hair out a little more
than recommended because I want it to work! I have
had a bad experience. I went for a bikini wax, and
my hair was not quite long enough. So, it only
pulled out some of the hair and the rest was left
behind. The lady tried waxing it a couple more
times, and that was not super comfortable. I have
had them try to re-wax an area four times before. It
wasn’t horrible but the wax is warm and all that
pulling, not the best. Then, and I am not kidding
about this, she takes out a tweezers! I am not even
lying. That was horrible, it hurt, and there were
quite a few she plucked. What is that going to do?
Those hairs are going to be growing back in a couple
of days. It was a bad experience. Do keep in mind
that hair does grow in different lengths. My advice
is to make sure you grow it out long enough before
you step foot in a salon. One last thing that I want
to mention is not to get waxed after you tan. You
can try it if you want, but I wouldn’t. Your skin is
sensitive after tanning and you will only irritate
it more. You also do not want to tan after, the skin
is sensitive. If you do go, you might get a burning
sensation where you were waxed. The skin will be
really red when you get out and it may even cause
you to get little red burns. I know because it has
happened to me. |

When you go in to get waxed make
sure you are going to a good place. They should have
their salon license and be clean. If you even
question a place, get out. Tell them you forgot your
wallet in the car, anything to get the heck out of
there. Go somewhere someone has been to before that
they can recommend, or a well know place.
There are two main types of wax; hot and
cold. Hot
was will be melted before being applied to your
skin. Once applied, they take a cloth and apply it
on top of the wax, rub it a couple times and rip it
off. Cold waxes, used in salons, are usually called
sugar waxing. It is a chunk of wax that the person
waxing you rub in their hands to activate it. They
apply it to your skin, rub it in good, and then
quickly rip it off. They keep the same chunk of wax
for the whole area. They just keep rolling it in
their hands. I had this done once and I didn’t
really like it. I didn’t think it waxed as well as
hot wax. Plus, I thought it was gross that the lady
kept rolling it in between her hands, and it had my
hair in it. Sick. I would get a hot wax over a cold
wax any day.
My last piece of advice is to speak up! Let the
person waxing you know if you are having issues. I
have had the wax temperature too hot before. I felt
bad (I know it doesn’t make any sense) saying
anything so I kept my mouth shut. It was my bikini
area, again, and I got home and there was skin
missing. The top layer, but who cares, it was
bleeding! I had scabs, how gross is that? It was a
bad experience. Another one, my friend worked at a
salon and she waxed my upper lip. The wax was hot,
and since she was my friend, I told her. She didn’t
really think anything of it, and after she noticed
that the wax was low in the pot. So, the stuff she
put on my lip was sitting in the bottom of the pot
basically boiling. Once again, it ripped a layer of
my skin off. Once again, it bled and scabbed, and
there was no hiding it, it was on my face! How
embarrassing. Just make sure to speak up, do not
feel stupid or bad, it will save you pain and
scabbing! |
