Cosmetic Tattoos - Part 1
Part 1 - Part 2

Cosmetic tattooing can be a scary process to go through. You can get eyeliner, eyebrows, full lip color and lip liner. I think it can be a great thing to do, especially if you are very self-conscious.

Cosmetic tattoos are great because they are permanent. You cannot wash it off, rub it off, and it will not melt off. You will look your best always anytime of the day or night. I think it has little pain for such a great outcome. Know where you are going. Research!!!! You need to go somewhere that is certified and a place that is clean. You want them to be up to state codes. The person that does it should have training in it. You do not go to a tattoo shop to get this done. You should look at medical clinics and spas or salons that are more on the posh side. Ask around, find out where the “it” place is to go. I was working at a clinic and had my eyebrows done there. It was a regular clinic and in one corner there was a dermatology/facial plastics area. This made me feel more comfortable having it done at a place like this. I knew they knew what they were doing. I had all the confidence in them. An estitian did my eyebrows. That is a key word to look for when you are finding a place. Ask who will do it and what their credentials are.

While there are good, there are bad things that go along with tattooing. It is permanent, that is good, but it is scary. When I got my eyebrows done, I was so scared they would screw up and I would be stuck with it. You need to communicate, communicate, and communicate. Talk it through until you are blue in the face. You need to know that you and your estitian are on the same page. When given the option on the color you want, choose the lighter one. You can always add more color but you cannot take it away. Or, you can also mix the two to get a well rounded and blended look. They will put a couple of lighter hairs and then go in with the darker color and scatter it around. Listen to the opinions of your estitian, they have done this before, and they have experience. Also, they have seen the colors on other people and know what they look like. The other thing to consider is that it will not be free of touch ups. You will need to go in and have it touched up every so often. How often depends on you and how you take care if the tattoo. You really need to watch the products you put on your face. They will tell you things to stay away from. You will need to put on sunscreen everyday, and in the summer re-apply often! This will help the color from fading. Over time, it will fade, and you will need a touch up. Touch ups will cost less. The cost of the tattooing is going to be a lot. I paid $400 for my eyebrows. It is not cheap. I think it is worth it though. I am not made of money but I would do it again.

Cosmetic tattooing is the same thing as getting any tattoo. The difference is that it is on your face, and is to resemble make-up. Usually they will apply the ink with a hand tool. I like that they use a hand tool, I feel like it give them control and at a slow pace, less room for screw ups. I like that they have to really stop and think before they apply the hand tool to your skin. For regular tattoos they use a tattoo machine. It seems to be applied to the skin in a faster pace, and not something to use when you are doing something as delicate as cosmetic makeup. It feels like they are scraping the top layer of skin. They get the needle into the second layer of skin, the deeper layer. The color holds there. The first step is to test your skin, and make sure you do not have an allergic reaction. If they do not mention this, make them do it. It would really be horrible if you got a tattoo on your face and had a reaction. The whole world would know. They just poke the color into my skin behind my ear. It is so small it is hard to see. This makes sure you are not allergic to the ink they use.
