Eyeliner How To
|
|
Eyeliner is as easy step in eye make
up that will finish your overall look. Some people
are religious by it, some use it sometimes, and
others hate it. If you hate it, go out and buy
eyeliner, the self sharpening kind, and try it. It
will take a couple different tries before you will
feel comfortable. Do not give up you will get the
hang of it. Really, it isn’t that hard. I will give
you tips and go over the different colors, and
technique. |

First of all you need to pick an
eye liner. I like the pencil form, and I hate the
liquid crap. Liquid eyeliner looks good on famous
people because someone, a professional, is putting
it on for them. Liquid eyeliner is for the people
who are very comfortable putting on make up and it
will take a bit longer getting used to than pencil.
I have tried it and I hate it. It is too hard, and
you cannot screw up because you can tell if the line
you make is not straight. With a pencil it is hard
to tell if it isn’t perfect, and you can always
smudge it in a bit to cover up mistakes. Liquid
eyeliner looks good when done right. I think the
best look is to only line the top of the eyelid, not
the bottom. When you are looking at pencils there
are two kinds: the kid you sharpen and the self
sharpening. I recommend the self sharpening. You do
not have to worry about sharpening and the mess that
comes along with it. Also, if you need to sharpen a
pencil and think you can get by one more day, you
might just poke you eye. When a pencil need to be
sharpened a lot of times the wood around the color
gets really sharp. I cannot tell you how many times
I have poked my eyelid or scraped it, and it hurts!
Also, when you sharpen a pencil it doesn’t come out
perfect and you are sitting there just sharpening
and sharpening, in the end you waste pencil. It can
be quite a mess too. There is no mess with a self
sharpening pencil and it is my new favorite thing.
They are so easy to use, very quick and it makes a
nice even line on your lids. With a regular pencil,
depending on how you sharpened it, you can get a
skinny line or a thick one. Go for the self
sharpening pencil. |

Next, pick out a color. I love
the classic black, and it looks good on anyone. It
can be a bit harsh, so watch for that. If it seems
to be too much, rub it with your finger and little
and smudge it. Brown works well too, just make sure
you get the dark brown if given a choice. I once got
a hazel brown and it was light, and washed out my
face. Everyone thought I was sick and they kept
telling me how I looked like crap. I will always go
for the dark brown eyeliner from now on. Navy blue
is common now, and it looks good on just about
everyone, especially people with blue eyes. Purple
looks good when it is the right color. Watch out
what you are buying. MAC makes one that is to die
for and would look good on anyone. It really brings
out brown and blue eyes. There are a lot of kohl and
grey eyeliner out now and they look good, they are
less harsh than a black. If you have dark eyes be
careful, it might not look good, be sure to pair it
with a light eye shadow. Grey looks great on people
with blue eyes. Always pair it with a light shimmery
shadow, it looks fantastic. Those are the basic
colors. I know right now there are a lot more
colors, especially ones that are bright and very
colorful. Like peacock blue, and bright green. I do
not like these because I think they make people look
cheap. If you do it, wear no shadow or a light
shadow, and keep the rest of your make up to a
minimum. Do not wear lipstick, it will look too
overdone. Be really careful using eyeliner that is
very colorful. It can be done, but needs to be done
in good taste.
Eyeliner is very easy to apply. First you need a
steady hand. Remember in the beginning, if you screw
up, you can wash it off. Apply the eye shadow first.
If you apply the eyeliner first it will be covered
up with your shadow. Always apply the eyeliner after
the shadow. You want to make a line from the inside
of you lid to the outside. I start with the upper
lid first and then I do the lower lid. You want to
get close to the lash line, so there isn’t a gap,
when lining the top lid. The line can be the same
size, or you can make it thicker as you go towards
the outside. After the top is done go to the lower
lash line. You want to line under the lashes. If you
go above the lashes on the kind of wet part of the
lower lid it will make you eyes appear smaller.
Also, every time you blink it will pull little
pieces of the eyeliner in your eye and irritate it.
Within a few hours you will have to re-apply because
the eyeliner is now floating in your eyeball. Lining
it below the lashes will open your eyes up a lot and
make them appear to be bigger. You want this line to
be the same in width size. Do not make it thicker as
you go out. You want to line from the inside to the
outside. If you want you can also start the line
where the color of your eye starts and go out. You
want to smudge this, so it doesn’t look awkward.
Smudge it all the way across the lower line. You do
not have to line the lower lid, if you do not want
to. I hate when people only line the bottom lid
though, it looks like you were hung over when you
did your make up. Always finish with two coats of
mascara and watch out for eye booger throughout the
day.
